Cortona: a legendary town

Visitors will be certainly astonished visiting this town: when looking down from the balcony of Piazza Garibaldi their curious eyes will embrace the boundless plain of Valdichiana, or in front of the powerful Etruscan walls which winds around the place for three kilometres, or feeling the surreal atmosphere of the “Poggio” holiness and its churches and monasteries; admiring masterpieces by Beato Angelico or Signorelli; when looking up and seeing Santa Margherita or strolling about the harmonious squares, the picturesque alleys and the steep lanes…

From here we move on to the surroundings with their landscape rich in culture and faith. Their archaeological Etruscan and Roman settlements, their Franciscan “Convento delle Celle”, their Romanesque abbeys, magnificent villas, Renaissance churches along the slopes…

It’s also worth mentioning antique shops, art stores, terracotta workshops, bakeries, butcheries and their famous Chianina steaks, traditional restaurants and wine shops… spots for young people, pubs, bars and of course places where one can enjoy some music.

There are many cultural events - performances at the theatre, music at “Accademia Etrusca”, traditional historical commemorations, religious processions, days crammed with eno-gastronomical appointments and various festivals in the square.
